When we met with Rachel and Josh for the first time we knew that we would really like this couple. They were fun and witty and full of love for one another. As we started discussing what they would want to do for their engagement session Rachel knew for sure that they would have to incorporate planes into the session. You see Josh is a pilot and a little plane ride played a big part in their engagement story.

The day Josh proposed he surprised Rachel with a trip to Florida but it took Rachel a while to figure it out. Josh personally flew them down to the beach and the whole time he told her that they were just going up to Missouri for the day. Rachel being super tired from a long night shift as a nurse at The Med didn’t really pay attention to where they were flying. I love the part of their story where she talks about thinking that Missouri had some pretty awesome looking lakes… Those lakes just happened to be the ocean 🙂 What a surprise! I know I would love to be surprised with a trip to the beach! And a gorgeous engagement ring on top of that, yep that is a great way to start their forever together.

For their session we got to incorporate some of the planes that Josh now flies and one that he will shortly be qualified to fly. We loved being able to incorporate such a fun prop into their session because it had such special meaning to their story. And honestly, who doesn’t love playing around Lear Jets all afternoon 🙂

Rachel and Josh were so much fun to photograph and boy were they great sports about the day! Because of their crazy schedules we had to wait till June to do their session and it was a blazing 105 degrees that day. The interiors of the planes were even hotter than outside and we all had a great laugh at the copious amounts of sweat that was pouring off everyone. But we all felt it was worth it.

Enjoy a little look at Rachel and Josh’s engagement session:

Rachel and Josh’s wedding will be at Heartwood Hall and we thought it was only fitting to end the session with some outdoors images. We timed the light just right and got our absolute favorite type light for the end of their session. The hour right before sunset is absolutely our number one favorite light in the summer because it is soft and deliciously golden.

We cannot wait for the wedding guys!! September can’t get here soon enough!
Cheers,
Savannah and Philip
