When we first met with Zakiya to talk about her marriage to Brandon, there was something about her spirit that radiated through the screen. Even over Zoom we could tell how much she loved Brandon and the excitement she had for the upcoming wedding.
One the wedding day, we got to see first hand that spirit of calmness, peace, and joy that not only Zakiya had but also Brandon. They had found the one that their souls were longing for and it was clearly evident to all who know them.
Everything about their day was about one word, intentionality. They decided to have a very intimate wedding ceremony and reception, focusing not just on the celebration of their union but also the importance of their faith in each of their lives and their joined lives. Their wedding ceremony was not just a marriage of two but a worship service honoring the God who had brought them through so much.
As their friends toasted them during their brunch style reception, we heard story after story of how Zakiya and Brandon are better together than apart, how they strengthen one another to be the best version of themselves, how they support one another’s dreams and passions, how they both light up when the other enters the room. It was an honor to hear such amazing tributes to their individual character and their partnership.
The last intentional thing they did during their wedding was something we haven’t seen before and might be one of the coolest elements of a reception we’ve seen in a while! They hired an amazing band to give a private date night style concert for their guests. Alongside their amazing planner and designer, DeeAlex Weddings, they created a private lounge in the basement of their venue, the amazing Urevbu Contemporary Art Gallery. As the guests enjoyed signature cocktails, they got to listen to the amazing Jerome Chism band. It reminded us of one of our favorite date nights we have had as a couple, listening to live music in small jazz club in Paris. What a great way to show your friends and family what you love to enjoy as a couple!
I could go on for a while but I’ll let the photographs do the rest of the talking!
